Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist (A Review)

I remember reading about this film a few months ago…I do not know that I have the emotional fortitude to soldier through a viewing. Yet, I sort of feel that I must.

“…ANTICHRIST may be getting a bunch of flack for its graphic scenes of genital mutilation but whatever, that stuff doesn’t really bother me as long as my junk is still intact. What I have trouble dealing with is footage of a baby bird covered with devouring ants and the oppressive sense that life is a never ending meaningless deathgasm. Don’t think you can shelter yourself from the cruelty of existence within the warmth of a human relationship either, not on LARS’ watch! Love is merely a front for a savage, to the death, wrestling match where both parties gnaw each other raw and silent animosity is the closest thing to a time out. Only bring a date to this movie if you never want to see that person again.”

I am simultaneously fascinated and repulsed by this film, just from the descriptions. I know I will see if, but I may need the security of a pause button. For the full effect, though, I suspect you need the relentless progression of seeing it in a theater.

Fuck it, honestly… wanna know a secret? I’m 100% only losing weight for guys. My clothes? Meh. the way I look? Meh. It’s all for guys. All. Of. It. Nope, not even ‘to be healthy,’ again… it’s all for guys.

And the sad thing? It’s totally legit. I have a list of incidents where I could prove that guys prefer skinny girls (anyone who says otherwise is itchin’ for a fight).

I know the above makes me look desperate and sad, and stop judging me if you are, but it’s the truth.

Mad love for you, girl. <3 At the end of the day, everyone wants to be liked, and we all do different things to get people to like us. I became, as one friend puts it, “that funny girl with the heart of gold who will do anything for anyone, until you piss her off” to be liked. And usually it works.

Just make sure that you’re happy, too, because cliche as it is, it’s true that if you don’t like yourself, nobody else really will, either.

Oh, and while I know you are correct in a general sense, there are quite a few men out there who are not immediately attracted to thin women, and yet who are not fat fetishists, either. People like who they like, and while appearance has a part to play, if it’s the only significant factor — no matter what your “type” may be — then you are in a sad and common place.
